# Terms of service

Effective 2026-11-01. This is a translation for convenience; the Korean text governs.

## 1. Purpose

These terms set out the rights, duties and conditions between the business that operates SHADOWENG (the "Company") and its members.

## 2. Definitions

- The "Service" is the online service on the web and Android for practising languages with videos and captions. Making videos in SHADOWENG Studio is covered by the Studio terms (https://studio.shadoweng.com/terms).
- A "Member" is a person who agreed to these terms and created an account.
- "Paid services" are subscriptions, passes, extra voice packs and class plans.
- "Allowance" means the translation, AI practice, pronunciation assessment, speech transcription and Studio credits included in a plan.

## 3. Effect and changes

These terms take effect when posted in the Service. The Company may change them within the law and announces changes in the Service 7 days before they apply, or 30 days for changes that disadvantage members. A member who keeps using the Service without objecting by that date is taken to agree. A member who does not agree can stop using the Service and leave.

## 4. Accounts

- You must be at least 14 years old to sign up.
- Members sign up with an e-mail and password, or a Google account.
- An account is for its owner only and cannot be lent or transferred. Members are responsible for keeping their password safe.
- Members can delete their account in settings at any time.

## 5. What the Service does and its limits

- Videos play in YouTube's official player. A video that is deleted, made private or blocked by its uploader cannot be played, and ads placed by YouTube can appear.
- Automatic captions and AI explanations, translations and scores are study aids and are not guaranteed to be correct. They are not proficiency test scores.
- The Service relies on outside speech, AI and payment services, and their failures or policy changes can limit some features.

## 6. Member material

- Members hold the rights and the responsibility for captions and text they import or upload, and may upload only material they have the right to use.
- Videos and captions a member publishes can be used by other members for study. They stay for other learners without the member's name, as "Deleted user", after the member leaves.
- The Company can stop showing material that is reported for infringing rights or that breaks these terms.
- The Company handles member material only as needed to run the Service, as described in the privacy policy.

## 7. Prohibited conduct

Members must not:

- break the law or infringe the rights of others
- share accounts, call the Service excessively with automated programs, bypass its security or disrupt it
- misuse payments or refunds, or obtain trials or rewards dishonestly

## 8. Prices and payment

- Prices and allowances are as shown on the pricing page (https://shadoweng.com/en/pricing). Payments go through Toss Payments and PayPal, and the Company does not store card numbers.
- Subscriptions are charged automatically every month or year until cancelled. Passes and class plans are paid once and do not renew.
- Allowances refill every month and unused amounts do not carry over.
- If the Company raises a subscription price, it gives 30 days' notice and members can cancel before the next payment.

## 9. Free trial

An account with no paid history can try Pro once for 7 days without a card. Nothing is charged when it ends. The free tier and the trial let members try the Service before buying.

## 10. Cancelling a subscription

Members can cancel renewal at any time under "Plans and payment" in settings. The paid period stays available until it ends, and no further payment is taken.

## 11. Withdrawal and refunds

- Within 7 days of payment, if none of the allowance from that payment has been used, the full amount is refunded. Use means AI practice, pronunciation assessment, speech transcription, new translation or included Studio credits. For a class plan, this applies until a student joins.
- Allowances are given by the month, so a month whose allowance has started to be used counts as digital content whose supply has started, and withdrawal for that month is limited under the e-commerce act. Seven days after payment, a month counts as started even if nothing was used.
- For yearly subscriptions, passes and class plans, which pay for several months at once, months not yet started can be refunded at any time. The refund is the payment divided by its months, times the months left, less 10% as a cancellation fee once 7 days have passed since payment. Example: a Plus yearly subscription of 58,000원 used for 3 months and 4 days has 8 months not yet started, worth 38,667원; less 3,867원, the refund is 34,800원.
- Monthly subscriptions are not refunded for a month that has started. After cancelling, the month stays available to its end and no further payment is taken.
- For an extra voice pack that is partly used, the amount for the remaining uses is refunded less 10%.
- Refunding a class plan ends class access for all of its students.
- Anything not paid for, such as the free trial, days earned as rewards and credits given at sign-up, is not refundable. With a coupon, the calculation uses the amount actually paid.
- To ask for a refund, write to the contact on the privacy policy page (https://shadoweng.com/privacy.html) with the e-mail of the paying account and the payment date. The Company starts the cancellation on the original payment method within 3 business days of confirming the request. Card companies and payment providers can take a few more days.
- Where the law gives members more, the law applies.

## 12. Compensation for the Company's faults

If a paid service cannot be used normally because of the Company's fault, the Company extends the period by the time lost or refunds the matching amount, without a cancellation fee.

## 13. Restrictions and termination

If a member breaks these terms or seriously disrupts the Service, the Company can restrict use or end the contract after giving notice, or restrict first and give notice afterwards in an emergency. When a member leaves, remaining paid time and allowance end too, so ask for any refund before leaving. Payment records are kept for the period the law requires.

## 14. Changes and closing the Service

The Company can change features or pause the Service for maintenance, with notice where possible. If it closes the Service, it gives 30 days' notice and refunds months not yet started without a cancellation fee.

## 15. Limits of liability

Unless it acted intentionally or with gross negligence, the Company is not liable for errors in AI results, failures or policy changes of outside services including YouTube, or loss caused by a member. Where the law does not allow liability to be limited, the law applies.

## 16. Disputes

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Korea. Disputes go to the court that the applicable law provides for.
